My studio is in the pine woods of the American south, an inconvenient distance from any contemporary art center. In the solitary, contemplative act of painting, I am bonded with all artists, living and passed on, celebrated and unnamed, who share my practice of making art: objects formal, annunciative, brash, reflective, shamanistic, relevant. Humans inherit this unbroken privilege, and I do not understand what this history means.
I paint to learn.
