Alexis Berman is a Los Angeles based artist who is fast becoming the it girl amongst savvy art collectors and celebrity clientele.
Alexis was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and is the oldest of Paul and Suzanne Berman’s four children. With her family’s passion for culture, travel, and beautiful things, Alexis developed an unshakable vision and keen eye for the aesthetic. Extensive travel throughout her childhood inspired her worldliness and cultured palette. By the time Alexis was 18 years old, she had already traveled to over 40 countries.
“I feel so deeply grateful to be a part of this world, this experience, this path we are all on. It is so precious to appreciate all that is around us. Life is a gift.
My practice as an artist is the manifestation of my gratitude for the physical and non-physical worlds, and the reappropriation of things and experiences which I find beautiful.
I draw inspiration from the sensory world around me: music, lights, nature, dancing, the sweet smell of gardenias in bloom, laughter across the dinner table, that perfect shade of turquoise that you just want to... eat!”, she laughs.
Always intrigued by nature and the arts, Alexis began painting at the age of one, and continued to take drawing and ceramics classes as a child. Even before Alexis could drive, she was accepted and enrolled at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles where she studied life drawing and color theory while she was in middle and high school. In 2005 Alexis was accepted into one of the most prestigious collegiate fine art programs in the country, University of California Los Angeles, where she studied with world-renowned artists John Baldessari, Barbara Kruger, Lari Pittman, Roger Herman, and Andrea Fraser. She earned her BFA in 2008.
Since graduating from UCLA, Alexis has been met with success and demand for her work. Two weeks before her UCLA graduation, she was discovered by gallerist and dealer Bill Lowe of Bill Lowe Gallery, a dealer who exhibits legendary artists like Pablo Picasso, Mark Rothko, Wassily Kandinsky, Sam Glankoff, and Dale Chihuly. Lowe was inspired by Alexis and began exhibiting her work at his gallery. She is youngest artist he has represented to date.
And promise was met with excellence and success, when her first show sold out within hours. Indeed Alexis has been on the steady climb to becoming one of todays’ brightest in the art world.
Bill Lowe has said, “Alexis Berman is a kaleidoscopic creative force who deftly navigates a wave of cosmic perception rarely accessed by artists. Her grasp of the metaphysical aspects of art rivals that of the great artists throughout history. I describe her as a configuration of frequency woven into a beautiful tapestry of Light and vision whose mission is to illuminate and energize this dimension through her strongest works. Beyond her exquisite exterior and her exceptional capacity to create, Alexis possesses a beautiful heart which she shares freely."
Today, Alexis works from her studio in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles, California, painting, reinventing, and reinforcing her artistic practice.
