Poiesis

( A combining word meaning to make.)

Painting is a form of writing to me.  I view a group of paintings as a text.

The paintings speak to me in two or more variables:  Information and ideas.  I join ideas together with information and explore meanings through association. It is combining images to make new information…as if the images were words.  The goal is to surface the remote elements of each painting as if it were a chapter in a larger text.

My interested in tying current histories and personal events together to create new information.

Painting, for me falls into the perimeter of writing, as painting is a visual form of writing, poems are word paintings.    A way of speaking without talking.

I transfer and separate to connect and understand.  A way of mapping together information to create another way to see the moment.

Painting is a way for me to memorialize what I have found and form a text anchored around a larger idea.  The idea that what we see is not always considered or connected to what we feel.  If we go further in what we see, we create new moments and new glossaries.  Putting the idea into painting as a form of Poiesis.
