Artist Statement and Bio
Alice is mainly a non-representational color painter that works on a large- scale format, but also works on a smaller scale for a variation of styles and techniques. Her work is about using minimal color and the process of layering to achieve a sense of depth and movement. This process is a way of fusing the act of painting with an experimentation of various materials to produce texture, which adds another element to draw the viewer into the work. She uses acrylic paint and mixed media to emulate the look of a wall cracking and peeling. The final outcome is work influenced by her photography of distressed spaces and surfaces, to convey the concept of how things change over time and the beauty of the forgotten. Alice is currently working on a series of Digital Paintings using a Digital Painting App on her IPad. Originally these were to be as a means of sketching out ideas for future paintings, but she then realized due to the composition, visual texture and rich colors produced, that this was just another possible medium to work with.
Alice has received her BFA in painting from Hunter College, and is currently pursuing her MFA. She has been in many group shows and continues to exhibit artwork in public spaces as well. In addition to this show, she also has had a series of paintings in the Private Dining Room at Craft Restaurant in NYC, a painting in Osaka, Japan for the Color Plastic company Ok-Kasei, has worked on several private commissions, and has sold work to private collectors throughout the United States, Japan and in Australia. She has participated in a live painting performance for the Food Network's "Wine Down Art Show" in Atlantic City during a Food and Wine Festival, and has been featured in doing interviews for many online publications. Alice is also currently working on several projects for an Interior Designer in the New York and New Jersey area.
