Statement

Tanisha Bhana is a largely self-trained, emerging artist living in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is influenced by her personal experiences during her local volunteer work, her role in her current profesion, cultural upbringing as an Asian decendant in a new democracy and the life stories of individuals met during life's journey.

She is inspired by the desire to contribute towards the growth and development of an uninhibited and free society and the artistic recording of elements of human behaviour currently contributing towards the distinct social and environmental phenomena of our times.

She hopes to provide an original visual perspective on current behavioural patterns with the objective of enhancing social conciousness and driving creatively effective, peaceful and sustainable behavior.

Her work resonates with the Symbolist genre of art whilst exploring contemporary universal themes, sometimes interspersed with ancient myths or beliefs.

She aims to share an emotive depiction of expereinces in our current social and environmental context using vibrant, and sometimes exaggerated colour, and coarse textures in traditional and contemporary mediums.

Her current mediums are oil/acrylic on canvas, mixed media, pastel on fabriano/canson and digitally created or enhanced prints.
