Bio

Born in Elgin, Illinois, Marie du petit Thouars grew up in Europe and studied drawing in Florence, photography in San Francisco, and comic illustration in Brussels.

She was a Fashion Editor for seven years in Paris at publications such as The London Times, Le Monde, L’Officiel and French Vogue before she moved to LA in 2007, where she started her work as
a photographer.

The world of Marie du Petit Thouars is humorless, thoroughly voyeuristic, and vulnerably sincere, incorporating both the intimate and the conceptual, with an uncompromising consistency.

Thematically, she captures moments in transition, where something is in the process of exiting our vision.

In nearly all of her work, Marie portrays nameless subjects in movement, either exiting the frame, or walking away from the spectator.

Using blurs and otherworldly soft focus, Marie depersonalizes her subjects but somehow captures their story, so well that one is not sure if they have entered a fantasy world or a dream.
