Why do I take photographs and even write a little? It is instinctive as over the years, in response to some relentless creative impulse that bubbles up from somewhere buried deep, I use my camera. And this impulse is an exacting, mercurial devil as it propels me in different directions demanding to be satisfied. So I respond by taking pictures and jotting down notes all the time observing as I attempt to use those photojournalistic skills I picked up some years ago. But still the tension remains.
My artistic outlook is simple. I take photos of buildings, people, cities, events, still life, landscapes – in fact, anything that is within spitting distance as I have an intense curiosity about everything. I just want to record what is around me.
Some of the images in my Profile shown here are from Dublin, Ireland – my place of birth – and they are a glimpse of the beauty, the mystique, the heartbreak, the unique memory and culture of my native city.
There are several pictures from Greece where I lived 1979 - 1981, plus some more recently taken in London and nearby - my adopted home in England, an incredible place and always exciting. I never cease to be amazed how photographic opportunities present themselves and also I realise how much there is still to learn about this art form.
I participated in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions in 2010 and 2011. Then in 2013, I was selected for the Salon des Refusés 2013 at the Hoxton Gallery, London and this year, I showed at the Salon des Refusés 2014 at the Londonewcastle Project Space.
