Liang Yuanwei, was born in 1977 and is a Beijing based artist. Graduated from Design Department of Central Academy of Fine Arts (BA and MFA), Liang has embarked upon contemporary artistic practices and got involved in exhibitions since 1999 and was one of the founders of N12, a dynamic art collective of the young artists in the early 2000’s. Liang is apt to utilizing multiple media, with sophisticated meditation revealed in her seemingly easily comprehensible works. Her artistic characteristics are real, simple, exquisite, but acutely reflecting contemporary conditions. Playing up the relations between natural environment and cultural surroundings, Liang has revealed tricky conflicts and coalition between works and environment, which concludes to be a particular and enticing aestheticism.

Liang yuanwei’s art is exhibited extensively in various art institutes of art which include Berkeley Art Museum (US), Joan Miro Museum (Spain), Minsheng Art Museum, Taikang Space and Pace Beijing, etc. She was also a participating artist of the China pavilion of the 54th Venice Biennale. Since her first solo show “BLDG 115 RM1904,”(2008), Liang Yuanwei has acquired massive attentions. In 2010, her first solo exhibition at Beijing Commune “Golden Notes”, was selected as one of the most annually valuable shows in the terrain of contemporary paintings by Art Forum magazine. Her works are included in important publications such as “Vitamin P2: New Perspectives in Painting” by Phaidon Press, “The Generational: Younger than Jesus” by New Museum in New York City, etc
