Statement

                                                            Biography

Clara Varas (B. Havana, Cuba) is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Varas uses unconventional materials and household items to explore our relation to familiar objects, domesticity, and displacement. Varas’ work investigates the language of abstraction and transcends boundaries between painting, sculpture and installation.  Clara Varas was a finalist for the 2015-16 Cintas Fellowship in visual arts and a first place winner of the Seventh All-Media Juried Biennial at Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, FL. Varas has exhibited extensively, including a recent solo exhibition (2016) “New Works” Spinello Projects, Miami, FL. Notable group exhibitions include “Intersectionality” Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, FL “Littlest Sister” Spinello Projects, Miami, FL and “Cintas Foundation Fellow- Finalist Exhibition”  Museum of Art and Design at the Freedom Tower in Miami, FL- where the artist lives and works.
