Jove Wang was born in Jilin, China in 1962. When he was seven years old, he apprenticed with master painter Gang Gu, subsequently studying at Jilin School of Art and Zhejian Academy of Fine Arts, the most prestigious art institute of China now named the China Academy of Art. He also received professional training from Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts.
In 1990, Wang immigrated to the United States where he has been honored with several awards including Best in Show at the California Art Club’s 88th Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition, and the following year he took First Place in the figure category in the California Art Club’s 89th Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition. He has also taken home awards from Oil Painters of America’s National Juried Exhibition, the Cincinnati Art Club’s Exhibition, and the Carmel Art Festival. Most recently, in 2009, he won the Guy Rose Award for Best Multi-Figurative Composition at the California Art Club’s 98th Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition.
His work has been showcased at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, the Pasadena Historical Museum, the Laguna Beach Art Museum, the Carnegie Art Museum, the Bowers Museum and the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art at Pepperdine University in Malibu. His work is in the permanent collection of several museums including the Bowers Museum, Bakersfield Museum of Art, and Mission San Juan Capistrano.
Wang has been featured in several art publications, including Southwest Art, American Art Collector, Workshop and American Artist. In 2003, Wang published a book of paintings, Instinct and Feeling.
Jove Wang is a signature Member of the California Art Club.
