Reece Camp Carter
San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI)
Reece is a sculptor who creates temporary experience through installation, sound, and video. In all of her work she explores ideas of disrupting causality through fragmented time, and the repetition of ritual. Though direct, these experiences created are fragile and temporary, reflecting the nature of the memories and ideas that her audience may produce when relating to the work.
Reece was born in Virginia. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University’s sculpture program in 2000, and she earned her Master of Fine Arts degree from the San Francisco Art Institute in May of 2010.
She was nominated by Hou Hanru as one of seven Bay Area artists for the Art Now Foundation’s 2010 Pioneer Art Award. She received the Bennard Osher Grant in 2002. Reece has exhibited work at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Southern Exposure Gallery, SF Indie Film Fest, SOMArts, Adobe Books, Artist Television Access, 111 Minna, and The 21Grand Theater. Since 1998 her work has been shown in Utah, California, Washington D.C., and Virginia. Currently she is working for video artist Bill Viola as a Production Assistant. Reece lives and works in Los Angeles, California where she continues to show.
She is planning an upcoming trip to Australia and Switzerland to complete her next bodies of work, an exploration of glacial depletion by sonic values of echoes and an artistic investigation into oral tradition of current agrarian and oceanic subcultures through ethnomusicology, argot, and storytelling.
