"Light is my inspiration, my paint and brush." - Ruth Bernhard
A native New Yorker, I was seduced by San Francisco and moved out west several years ago. Reflected in my photography is an interest in the urban landscape and abstract themes.
My early love of photography was encouraged by my father's gift of a 35mm camera. Soon friends and family were requesting copies of my work. Today my work is sold through galleries and has been auctioned for the benefit of the Mexican Museum, Visual Aid, ArtSpan and other charities. My work appears in private collections around the country.
I believe in serendipity. One of my guiding principles is that the less I try, the more I find. Strolling around a location and soaking in the character of my surroundings, I allow photographs to reveal themselves. I shoot subjects that appeal to me and I hope they resonate with the viewer.
Over the past few years, I have been drawn to the night and increasingly find myself shooting at twilight and into the evening. The night has a magical transformative quality that gives everyday objects a special appeal.
I am loyal to my 35mm film camera and have not yet joined the digital camera age. Negatives are scanned and produced as digital chromogenic prints on archival papers.
