FAQ – Troubleshooting Profile Problems
I tried to create my profile and it says my name is already taken. What do I do?
You may already be listed in Artslant (to find out how click here). In that case you don't need to create a new Profile but claim the Profile that already exists for you.
Click on ARTISTS on our Main Menu and search for yourself using the Refine box.
If you find yourself, open your page and make sure it is you (sometimes people have the same name).
If it is your Profile, you can claim your Profile by clicking >Click here to claim your profile below the Is this your profile? question on the right side of the screen.
If you find more than one profile under your name or if the profile you find with your name is not you, notify email@example.com
I tried to claim my profile, but there is no "Click here to claim your profile" option. What do I do?
The Click here to claim your profile link disappears when someone has claimed the Profile already. If you have multiple Artslant User IDs check to see if you've claimed your Profile previously under a different login. If not, and you think your gallery or someone else has claimed your profile and you would like control of it, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to include your User ID in your email to us.
The Click here to claim your profile link also disappears if you have already claimed one Profile to prevent people from claiming Profiles that aren't theirs. If you have found multiple Profiles with your name, see below:
What do I do if I find multiple profiles with my name?
Sometimes, artists or other arts professionals find multiple Profiles in the ArtSlant network under slight variations or misspellings of their name. This occurs when others input information, and use a name that is not your professional name.
For example, "Pablo Picasso" and "Picasso" might exist as two separate profiles.

I added my artist statement. Why isn't it showing up?
Sometimes, especially when one copies and pastes text, the text is accompanied by HTML code from the original, including text colors. If you can highlight your text and see it when highlighted, then the text is probably white on white. Change the color of the text or background by using the "select text color" and "select background color" buttons located in the tool bar of the text edit box.
There's a list of artists and venues on my profile under "Exhibited With." How can I change which names show up?
ArtSlant links artists, exhibits, venues, curators to create an extensive database of connections and history in the contemporary art world. Researchers and curators are using this data continuously. All of the information under your profile Network listings has been compiled based on the exhibitions entered into ArtSlant's worldwide events listings.
The list of artists and venues on your profile Network is pulled from your recent exhibitions in the ArtSlant Calendar and system. These Network connections are abridged for cosmetic reasons and are formed automatically.
For Standard & Portfolio Profile Users, you have control over these Network connections. You can Hide or Show any of the connections shown in your Network listings by simply clicking on the HIDE/SHOW links next to the names.
For Basic Profile users, you cannot change these connections. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to report erroneous information.
There's an exhibition on my profile that I wasn't in. How can I remove it?
If you have a Basic Profile, please contact us at email@example.com and we will be happy to remove any erroneous information from your profile.
If you have a Standard or Portfolio Profile Package, you can easily Show or Hide exhibits by clicking on the link next to each exhibition listing on your profile.
There is another artist on ArtSlant with the same name as me! Can I spell my name how I like, or do I need to add a middle initial?
Very rarely but every so often there is another artist with the same name and same spelling. At ArtSlant we will do our very best to keep the chances of confusion low. In these cases the preferred spelling is granted to 1) more well-known and established artists, and 2) registered ArtSlant users. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if this has happened to you.
