DESCRIPTION

As a complement to other Wichita arts organizations, the Ulrich focuses on modern and contemporary art and serves as a repository for the cultural heritage of Wichita State University. The context and impulses for today’s artists provide a lens through which to engage audiences in the practices, concepts, and presentation of the art of our time. The collection supports the museum’s purpose to meaningfully engage viewers and present visual art experiences that resonate with and enrich Ulrich audiences.

In 34 years of operation, the Museum has judiciously developed its permanent collection with exemplary work by such acknowledged masters as Robert Henri, Milton Avery, Joan Miró, Alexander Calder, Robert Motherwell , Jacob Lawrence, Joan Mitchell, Claus Oldenburg, Luis Jiménez Jr., Zhang Huan , Andy Goldsworthy, and Jules de Balincourt. Photography represents a pocket of strength with important prints by Berenice Abbott, Margaret Bourke-White , Edward Weston, Gordon Parks , W. Eugene Smith, Diane Arbus, Nikki Lee, and more.
