The B Complex
Atlanta, GA 30310
Founded in early 2000, The B Complex has unfolded as one of Atlanta’s artist conceived and developed cooperative ownership communities. Located along Murphy Avenue, just 5 minutes from downtown (and walking distance to the Oakland City Marta Station), The B Complex claims over 2 acres of the city’s last urban frontier.
Spanning from the turn-of-the-century through the early 1940’s, the expansive brick and concrete warehouses comprise over 40,000 sq ft of “industrial strength” creative workspace. Situated on a heavily wooded site, three of the property’s six structures are nestled in dense bamboo.
At the heart of the Complex is an 8,000 sq ft exhibition and event space. Housed in the circa 1919 Lanham Cotton Cultivator Company building, the Gallery features a 100-foot long glass clerestory with ceilings soaring 25 feet. The creation of The B Complex, Inc., facilitates the founding members’ vision to establish an artist-owned cooperative. Sheltered from the profit-driven loft developers, The B Complex proposes a legacy of truly affordable work and exhibition spaces for the Atlanta arts community.
