Henk Pasman’s work embodies the theme of alienation and boredom in our daily being. A good example of this is his series of photographs “interiors and bedrooms”, in which young women seem to be absorbed with a daily ritual of watching TV, smoking and drinking alcohol. At first sight nothing out of the ordinary but looking more closely an estranged form of communication appears, that seems to be resulting in addiction; and while this is not spelled out, it is in the eyes of the beholder. In this environment the real world is presented to us via a view to the outside or through the light that shines into the space.
In Henk’s other works the same theme is repeated subconsciously for example in the series "artificial beauty" about invented beauty.
