Intermedia Arts is Minnesota’s premier multidisciplinary, multicultural arts organization. We engage the power of the arts to increase connections and build community between people from different social, economic and ethnic groups. Our mission is to be a catalyst that builds understanding among people through art; our work inspires people to make changes in their lives and communities. By stimulating broader civic dialogue and by giving voice to the issues and experiences of underrepresented communities, we contribute to a stronger, healthier society.
At Intermedia Arts, our multidisciplinary programming falls into four broad categories: Media Arts, Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Literary Arts. We thrive on pushing the boundaries and definitions of artistic excellence. We’ve earned a national reputation as a dynamic and forward-thinking organization that champions underrepresented artists and art forms. From graffiti art to performance art to digital technology and spoken word, we work from the community up to unearth and enliven new and emerging artists and art forms. Our programs do more than support the creation and presentation of art; they challenge and explore the role of art in our lives.
Across all of our programming, Intermedia Arts works to ignite and engage a vibrant social conscience. We are a local community of international citizens; we are multi-lingual and many-cultural; we are hip-hop and hippies; we are exiled artists, environmental activists and community organizers; we are queer; we are youth; we are passionate life learners. At Intermedia Arts, we empower ourselves and each other to tell our stories—in our own words, in our own way. We gather here to speak, to listen, and to be heard.
Intermedia Arts belongs to the community we serve. We believe whole-heartedly in creative leadership and in the power of art to change the world. Artists are leaders. Leaders inspire. Our programs grow organically from the issues facing our neighbors, friends, families and community members. Together, we develop creative tools for addressing challenges, sharing resources, celebrating positive change and building healthy communities.
