"Top Ten" is a mixed media curated group show of works enlisted for the show on the basis of taste. As an artist strolling around galleries or going on studio visits I am quick to stamp my seal of approval or lack there of. I started thinking about what it is that inherently attracts me to certain types of art and what it is that I don't like about others. I started to acknowledge that what I appreciate does not deem it better or more valuable by the art world but does deem it more valuable to me. I would like to imagine an art world where works of art were bought and sold on the value of taste and preference.
I often leave the Chelsea Arts District in Manhattan without having seen something I like or really get excited about, but I started thinking that just as I am walking away blah and void another must be walking away astonished and excited about the same work.
So being an artist myself...What is my taste and preference when it comes to art? Ultimately, I am attracted to work that I feel has some kind of common element to my own work. I am drawn to pattern, repetition or obsessive qualities, and work with elements of humor.
I wanted to create a group show where I would love and be able to relate to every work of art there. I have included ten artists including myself that I am extremely happy to present together.
