Back from Planet Luvox
The works in the exhibition are resulted from Hasanul Isyraf Idris's preoccupation with the meaning of life and death and the spiritual and the physical. Luvox is one of the brand names of Fluvoxamine, a type of anti-depressant drug that the artist has been taking since the early 2014 to help recover from a dark moment in his life ignited by the unfortunate passing of his mother. The exhibition is more than a story of bouncing-back in life through the aid of a commercially-available drug, but is actually the artist's attempt to understand his collection of memories such as his time of living in London, teaching art in a secondary school in Borneo and the wonderful time spent as a child with his mother. These memories and the feelings attached to them are translated into puzzling scenes composed of found and generated imageries and debris from the everyday.
