Since 1999 the NordArt has established itself as one of the largest exhibitions of contemporary art in Northern Europe which takes place anually in the summer months. The NordArt is an overall work of art in its own right and is designed as such each year. More than 200 international artists, selected by a jury, present a comprehensive panorama of contemporary art. Each individual work not only speaks for itself but also creates new perspectives when seen juxtaposed against the unique backdrop offered by the former iron foundry Carlshütte and the adjacent historical sculpture park.
The exhibition also features the highly respected NordArt Symposium, bringing together different generations of artists from around the world to engage in debate, make new acquaintances, and work. The results are then displayed in the Carlshütte and the sculpture park.
For the NordArt 2014 about 3000 artists from 101 countries have applied. This year the exhibition focuses on contemporary art from Russia. The Moscow Ministry of Culture has taken on the patronage for the Russian Pavilion, which will present about 40 artists.
