DESCRIPTION

This exhibition brings to light a “collaging of sources” in the artistic career of English painter Francis Bacon (1909–1992). It presents the recent acquisition Seated Figure, 1977 (1992) in dialogue with works by Pablo Picasso, Louise Nevelson, Tina Barney, and Romare Bearden, among others in the Museum’s permanent collection. The exhibition builds conceptual, formal, and social connections to offer added meaning and understanding of Bacon’s artwork and its influences.
