The artist, Manik Nakra, takes on the possibility of addressing the world as his own. Taking cues from the narrative-figurative style as seen in Indian miniature painting and the architecture of ancient civilizations, Nakra breaks down these styles into minimal and stark compositions with vibrant colors and metal leafs to explore new gravities, new paranoia, and the golden dreams of his current generation.
Imperial Blends is part of a double solo show presented by the artist. A second solo show by Manik Nakra, consisting of 160 watercolor drawings based on the Champawat Tiger titled THE TIGERING!, will be shown concurrently with Imperial Blends at RedBud Gallery.
Manik Nakra is an artist living, working, and eating late night Chinese in Austin, TX. Previous exhibitions include shows at Wardenclyffe Gallery (Austin), Domy Books (Austin), AMOA-Arthouse (Austin), Women and their Work Gallery (Austin). He is 30 years old.
