DESCRIPTION

Simone Kappeler's photographs reflect the atmosphere and moods of the people and landscapes she encounters at home in Switzerland and abroad on her travels. Typically her images have a dreamlike quality and an intense or melancholy tone; they are often meditations on loss and the passing of time.

Kappeler's work has been widely shown and published; in 2001 it was included in Home, a group exhibition at this Gallery. The monochrome photographs in Darkened Days were taken in Dublin in 2011, using a 'Diana' camera.

This exhibition is accompanied by a new publication, which was supported by Lotteriefonds Kanton Thurgau and the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia.

The Douglas Hyde Gallery gratefully thanks the artist for her dedication and commitment to this project.
