DESCRIPTION

Children and adults of all ages will be intrigued and inspired by this delightful exhibition, which celebrates the worlds and stories revealed in picture books today.

Created by the State Library of Victoria, Look! includes sketches, drafts, mock-ups and finished artwork as well as multimedia presentations to demonstrate the various stages of developing contemporary Australian picture books. Over 40 of Australia’s most talented illustrators are featured in the exhibition including: Shaun Tan, Jeannie Baker, Graeme Base, Bob Graham, Gregory Rogers, Ann James, Leigh Hobbs, Terry Denton, Ron Brooks and Frané Lessac.

Featured titles include favourites such as Are we there yet?, The Arrival, Old Tom’s Holiday, Greetings from Sandy Beach, Fox and Enigma. These are complemented by an extensive program of films, activities, workshops and story times at the Gallery and in local libraries.

The exquisite images in Look! tell many stories, some beautiful, some hilarious, some difficult. They help children to understand the world and nurture their imaginations and dreams.
