South of no North
South of no North brings together three artists whose works are connected by an interest in the vernacular, a regional sense of place and a similar visual sensibility: photographers William Eggleston (USA) and Laurence Aberhart (NZ) and painter Noel McKenna (Australia).
Eggleston is known as a pioneer of colour photography and the MCA will display several of his dye transfer prints that shook the photography world whilst inventing a whole photographic style called the Democratic Camera.
Sharing a similar regional sense of place and visual sensibility to McKenna and Eggleston is the work of New Zealand photographer Laurence Aberhart. Noel McKenna first discovered Aberhart’s toned black and white photographs in the early 1990s.
