In the next future it will be necessary to rewrite the history of these years: the Fluxus movement and Sarenco’s work will be reconsidered in the righ perspective, as conceptual basis for the actions marking a rebirth, after the failure of the consumerism system led by the USA in a Nazi mould. Decadent experiences, Pop Art’s offshoots that are now acclaimed, such as Cattelan’s advertising-wise art or Beecroft’s living Barbies, will be written off; the English school’s macabre games will also be put into the background. In every historical moment while the power kills itself there appears a new mode of resistance in the form that stands as a guide.
Achille Bonito Oliva testifies how from the Sixties to the first decades of the XXI century Sarenco was able to make a testimony of himself different from the Society of Spectacle and therefore to show an explicit and evident level of analysis.
"I have always been creating scandals to explain myself, wasting a lot of time" wrote Sarenco on an ancient fabric from Zaire. And then, on a wood inlaid with three lions: "In life and in poetry the only criterion is Transgression. Lala Salama." Art copies life.
Artworks on the international alphabet: compositions of the 26 letters that evoke openings of new worlds.
FRAGILE Literature. Poetic fight. opPOsE resisTance. Nirvana is poetry.
"Sarenco I love you". Raining seasons.
Commas are the sense of literature, and at the center of the village sculptures dedicated to ‘dead’ poets, funerary poles mark the presence of masters: Mallarmé, Ball, Marinetti, Schwitters, Hausman, Cravan, Novak, De Vree, Pound, Breton.
"Poetry was born to be passed over orally: it was born as sound poetry.
Then poetry was passed over through writing: a linear poetry was born.
Recently poetry was passed over with image: a visual poetry is then born" Sarenco, 2004
The 25th October 2012, in Milan, at the Famiglia Margini cultural association, a rich exposition of unpublished works that Sarenco decides to present in a thick net of itineraries will open: a journey in three continents, Europe, Africa and Asia through artworks telling his long poetic walk to painting and sculpture, and then to cinema and life.
Unpublished is the pictorial oil-on- canvas cycle painted by Sarenco himself, ‘New International Abstraction’, composed by 27 flags. The flag is the top of abstraction! We are born as free citizens of the world and we don’t believe in boundaries drawn by greedy hands on valleys and seas.
A homage to Milan is the trittico Fontana, Castellani, Manzoni, composed of three fakes bought from the forgers. “But is there a revolutionary soul in avant-guarde? Does it exist or not? Who knows whether it exists? The very moment it is realized, avant-guarde becomes Academy (therefore the concept of avant-guarde itself is abstract).
