M.I.A Gallery is pleased to announce MIX & UNMATCH, the first US solo exhibition dedicated to the Iranian interdisciplinary artist, Negar Farajiani.

MIX & UNMATCH will also be partner of the Seattle Art Museum’s exhibition, Elles: Women artists from Centre Pompidou, Oct 11 2012- Jan 13 2013.

Yet she dares portraying herself in her collages; she changes appearances and she disappears.

No rules of the game are respected. The rules only serve whoever establishes them and seeks to prevail at the expense of others.

‘If everything is played in advance, why not replay with opposite rules?’ she ventures.

Her series of puzzle reveals the disorder, the control and the manipulation. It creates purposeful confusion.

The Iranian artist loves playing without a cause and recreating worlds. She knows her imagination needs to flow out and over the frame.

“Knowing you have boundaries, unleashes your creation” she says.

Negar’s art is broken in pieces, her puzzles provide a camouflage under which she finds comfort and protection. No-one can find her, yet, she is here, always watching and listening.

Born in Yazd, Negar Farajiani is a woman and an artist. She has had several solo shows in Tehran and has been part of group exhibitions in Dubai, London, Brazil, China, Japan.
