Based in Rhode Island, Willy Heeks has been creating luminous abstract paintings for over thirty years. In Heeks’ fifth solo exhibition at Elizabeth Leach Gallery, My Findings, each canvas is a very personal investigation into complex spatial relationships through the the use of pattern, organic line, and sensuous fields of color.  In oil and acrylic on canvas, Heeks interweaves multiple layers of brilliant color that electrify the picture plane with hints of graffiti and the natural world.

Willy Heeks, born in 1951, has gained a national reputation, exhibiting in New York, Los Angeles, and throughout the United States. He received his BFA from the University of Rhode Island in Kingston in 1973 and attended the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program that same year. His work has been acquired by the Peabody-Essex Museum (Salem, MA), Museum of Contemporary Art, (Detroit, MI), and the Cleveland Museum of Art (Ohio). He is also in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art (New York), Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), and the Museum of Modern Art (New York and San Francisco).
