DESCRIPTION

An exhibition addressing the current political climate towards women.

BACKLASH 2012

Perhaps, this 21st century war on women should not come as a surprise. When I joined Ms. magazine in 1972, cofounder  Gloria Steinem gave me a head’s up.  “This is the oldest revolution, “ she said of the magazine’s mission to advocate for women’s equality.  Indeed, after centuries of struggle and a recent wave of consciousness and legal advances, American women are again in the hole.

–Harriet Lyons, former editor at Ms. magazine

In response to the increasing tension against providing women with basic healthcare needs and the ensuing media restorm, which demonizes women, Soho20 Gallery Chelsea is hosting a venue for outrage.

Backlash is in response to this ‘war on women’s basic rights and freedoms.’ This non-juried exhibition is open to both men and women artists working in all media.
