Three Prong Claw: Gronk In The Bunker
Coagula Curatorial is pleased to present “Three Prong Claw”, an installation by legendary Los Angeles artist, GRONK.
Gronk is a founding member of ASCO, an East LA multi-media arts collective in the 1970s, and best known for his murals. He is heavily involved in theater, with elaborate, award-winning stage design for such organizations as the Los Angeles Opera and Santa Fe Opera. His scenic work has also been featured onstage with Latino Theater Company and East West Players.Gronk has collaborated with Kronos Quartet, was an artist-in-residency at University of New Mexico, and was given a career retrospective, as a member of ASCO, at Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Gronk's murals, paintings on canvas, and widely-collected screen prints, relate to the direct visual aesthetic contained in works by German Expressionist Max Beckmann and cartoon-like paintings of American Phillip Guston, along with vernacular of early civilizations (i.e. Toltec figurines).
Artist will be present at opening reception.
