Trustmark Grand Hall and William B. and Isabel R. McCarty Foundation Gallery
Presented in collaboration with Jackson State University, this exhibition features forty works by renowned artists. African American artwork spanning 150 years is represented in this selection from prominent Savannah, Georgia-collector Walter O. Evans, who began acquiring art in the 1970s with the purchase of a Jacob Lawrence portfolio of silkscreen prints. Lawrence is represented in this exhibition, along with Benny Andrews, Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett, Aaron Douglas, Mississippi-native Sam Gilliam, Richard Hunt, William H. Johnson, Lois Mailou Jones, Hughie Lee-Smith, Norman Lewis, Horace Pippin, and Charles White. This exhibition also includes nineteenth century artists Edward Mitchell Bannister, Robert Scott Duncanson, and Mary Edmonia Lewis.
