NOLA NOW Part II: The Human Figure (1982 & 2012)
In 1982, the CAC celebrated its fifth anniversary by hosting its most ambitious exhibition to date, The Human Figure. This exhibition sought to pair local artists such as Robert Gordy, George Dureau and Douglas Bourgeois with international artists. In the catalog, Monett stated that the focus on figurative work during that time was a way for artists to be “witnesses of their times” and that “the return of the human figure is a reflection of the human quest—man, again, in search of man.” Inspired by this powerful notion, NOLA NOW II: The Human Figure (1982 & 2012) is a celebration of the great diversity of individuals that populate the city of New Orleans and beyond.
