DESCRIPTION

This is the inaugural event for MAM Contemporaries, a dynamic new special interest group celebrating contemporary art at the Montclair Art Museum. Inspired by the exhibition Marina Zurkow: Friends, Enemies, and Others, this interactive presentation and discussion comprises a lecture and tour by the artist and a tasting with Gene Rurka, celebrity, exotic chef, hunter, and farmer, known for his appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman and Animal Planet. In the context of Zurkow's print series Heraldic Crests for Invasive Species (2011), the evening will focus on how we think about food, animals, nature, and culture. Sample three "invasive species" hors d'oeuvres, The Cute (Rabbit), The Bad (Knotweed), and The Ugly (Boar), along with mint-infused wine. Each guest will receive one-of-a-kind collectors' cards designed by the artist.
