DESCRIPTION

This installation investigates themes of heroism and boundless human potential. This piece focuses on Martin Luther King Jr. as a sort of fence jumper, an outspoken revolutionary who dared to hurdle social divisions within a hidebound culture.

Deirdre Sargent, a conceptual artist who lives in Akron, OH, received her BFA in Sculpture from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY (2008), and will begin the MFA program at Yale University this fall. She has completed commissions for a private collection in Hartford, CT, and for the New Orleans City Park, LA. Her work has been exhibited in New Orleans, LA, Sonoma County, CA, New York, NY, Asheville, NC, and Brooklyn, NY.
