The Third Annual Surreal Salon will run from Jan. 4-27, 2011 at Baton Rouge Gallery, 1515 Dalrymple Drive. This exciting exhibition will feature the work of contemporary artists from across the country, engaging audiences in a multi-sensory art experience and shedding light on the growing popularity and exceptional quality of contemporary surrealism and the pop-surrealist movement. The Third Annual Surreal Salon, which can only be seen at BRG, celebrates the many reasons why this irreverent and exciting movement has come to the forefront of contemporary art in recent years.

The Surreal Salon will feature the works of 27 artists from 11 different states. The work on display will run the gamut from video to sculpture, from photography to paintings.

On Saturday, January 23, Baton Rouge Gallery (“BRG”) will host a unique and multifaceted celebration of the exhibition with the Surreal Salon Soiree (6 – 10 p.m.). An irreverent evening of art, live musical performances, surrealist games, costumed attendees and more, the Surreal Salon Soiree (“the Soiree”) will be unlike any event the arts community in the area has seen since last year’s affair.

The Soiree’s headlining musical act, Quintron & Miss Pussycat, will bring the exciting and unpredictable brand of entertainment that has garnered them international critical acclaim to BRG. Icons of New Orleans’ experimental underground, Quintron & Miss Pussycat combine high-energy, hypnotic swampy dance music with dynamic, Technicolor puppet shows. The duo has performed the world over from New Zealand to Europe and across the United States. From Quintron’s lo-fi genius presented with his own hand-made instruments to Miss Pussycat’s playfully enthralling puppet theater, this will be a performance as inventive and unrestrained as anything Baton Rouge has seen before.

On Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010 at 4 p.m., Baton Rouge Gallery’s popular ARTiculate series, which aims to give the public insight into the artist’s mind via the artist’s mouth, will host a special engagement featuring painter, sculptor and juror for the Third Annual Surreal Salon, Chris Ryniak.

Ryniak will be discussing his critically-acclaimed artwork, techniques, inspirations and the Surreal Salon exhibition itself.
