In the words of Julie Heffernan, “Uncovering is what artists do: we paint in order to figure out what we think. If we're lucky it's not boring.”
From a Spartan self-portrait by Kurt Kauper and a highly-charged genre scene by Natalie Frank to a transcendent still-life by Rosson Crow -- the work in this exhibition avoids the inevitable parallels the viewer would expect to draw from the suggestive title and the gallery’s sunny locale. Though the beaches and streets of this island may be overflowing with people in various states of undress, it is the surprising complexity of the work put forth that is provocative.
All of the participating artists, some of the most talked about talents working today, are members of the faculty and Advisory Board of the New York Academy of Art. Curated by David Kratz, President, and Eileen Guggenheim, Chair, Board of Trustees of the Academy, Uncovered is the latest exhibition in a series of collaborations between the New York Academy of Art and Eden Rock Gallery. A portion of the proceeds from this exhibition will support residencies at Eden Rock for talented Academy artists.
