DESCRIPTION

Spanish painter Remedios Varo (1908- 1963) began her artistic career in the Surrealist circles of Barcelona and Paris, however it was in Mexico that she fully realised her potential as a painter. She drew on a highly personal vision to produce a fascinating body of work, establishing a personal language and artistic style that astounded the public who attended her first public show in Mexico City in 1956. Varo’s career was cut short by her premature death at the age of 55 in 1963 at a time when she had reached artistic maturity, leaving a legacy of 400 works. This will be the first comprehensive exhibition of Varo’s work in the UK.
