The Public Art Academy presents Factory Fresh, an exhibition featuring works completed by 12 artists participating in the 2010 summer Artist-in-Residence program. The program is designed to provide both emerging and established visual artists a place to grow creatively, as they work freely within the 300,000 square feet of rejuvenated industrial building that is the Pajama Factory.
Arriving from California, New Mexico, Florida, Ohio, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the resident artists brought with them a diverse range of thematic explorations and media that are representative of the vast landscape that is today’s contemporary art world. Their work will include figurative paintings that meditate on the contemplation of the self and of the feminine mystique, as well as sculpture and installations that excavate the surface of pop culture, domesticity, and collective memory. Other site-specific installations evoke three-dimensional painting, re-imagine the use of raw manufacturing goods or employ fluid materials like glass, melted sugar, and light. Abstract paintings explore the creation and destruction of stars, construct architectonic forms in nature, reinterpret ancient Japanese poetry, or gesturally describe biological forms.
The artists are Daniel Bilodeau, Emily Bowser, Jackie Brown, Chelsea Coon, Lucy Engelman, Alida Frey, Sophie Grant, Jennifer Gunlock, Jakub Makalowski, Susannah Mira, Misako Oba, and Yuka Otani.
A reception will be held on July 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. The Public Art Academy is located in Building 6 at the Pajama Factory, 1307 Park Avenue, Williamsport, PA. Free parking is available in the lot on Rose Street.
