Curated by: Bose Krishnamachari
ARCOmadrid_2009 is lending its attention once again to emerging markets, this time with the PANORAMA INDIA programme which will prove a useful tool for promoting contemporary art from India on international markets.
Two key names in current Indian art were instrumental in putting together this project. On one hand, the curator Bose Krishnamachari will give European collectors and investors an overview of the current art scene in India with a highly interesting selection of some of the country's most prestigious galleries and artists.
On the other hand, the curator and visual artist Shaheen Merali will round off this spotlight on India with a series of exhibitions, film seasons, concerts and events focussing on Indian art held at major museums and art centres in Madrid.
In recent times, India has become the happening star in the art market. The country's booming economic situation, the constant appreciation in value of its artists and the rise of private collectors, make the Indian market one of the most promising focal points for contemporary art in the 21st century.
Though largely centred in New Delhi and Mumbai, the rise in galleries has other interesting centres like Bangalore and Kolkata, where young new galleries and independent art centres are being created all the time. And all these centres are represented in the selection for Panorama: India at ARCOmadrid_2009.
