Alia Griffith (b. 1991, Tulsa)
My work is a response to memories; memories of mine, of family members, and historical memory. I draw on childhood trauma, family history, and new experiences as a young mother in order to create my two dimensional work. My current ceramic work deals with altering traditional forms such as cups, saucers, and vases into playful yet functional works of art.
As I have just graduated I am currently having to be creative with my print making process by coming up with ways to work with minimal access to equipment. I am also beginning to allow my 18 month old daughter to participate in my painting process both because she doesn't let me have a minute alone and because I find it an interesting way to build up a surface and dialogue within a piece.
Alia Griffith is offering a wide variety of originals and fine art prints for sale in the ArtSlant Salesroom (here).
