Jill Lear

Jill Lear currently paints “champion” trees and trees of natural and cultural significance. Her spare yet colorful paintings focus on the way these ancient specimens seduce the viewer with their haunting bodily forms and self-contained landscapes until these most basic elements of nature are seen in a new way.

Jill’s large-scale works on paper have been exhibited at Winkleman Curatorial Lab, New York, NY; Gallery Shoal Creek, Austin, TX; Place Suisse des Arts, Lausanne, Switzerland; Wave Hill Garden and Cultural Center, Bronx, NY; Hosfelt Gallery, San Francisco, CA; and Abmeyer-Woods Gallery, Seattle, WA. Her work has been acquired by the permanent collections at Wright State University Art Museum Dayton, OH as well as the Philip Isles Collection, New York, NY. Jill trained formally at the New York Studio School and holds degrees from both Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX as well as The Chambre Syndicale of Haute Couture in Paris, France.
