Debbi Chan was born in Houston, Texas in 1951. She is a mostly self-taught artist, but spent twelve years learning traditional Chinese painting, calligraphy and seal carving with the Chiu family. Debbi Chan's multi-dimensional, multi-faceted, and multi-medium practice blends Eastern traditions with the splendor of the American West. Chan's representations of the natural world stem from traditions of Chinese painting; she also creates seal carvings and deep relief carvings in natural materials such as wood, stone, bone, and antler, as well as working in other media such as embroidery, artist books, etchings, prints, calligraphy and photography. Her work is currently being shown in a solo show in Kendrick, Idaho.
