Applications are now open for this coming year's Latino Teaching-Artist Fellowship at Root Division!
Root Division is a visual arts non-profit located in the Mission District of San Francisco. Root Division’s mission is to improve appreciation and access to the visual arts by connecting personal inspiration with community engagement.
In order to increase professional opportunities for Latino artists and to better serve our student population, we are currently seeking applicants for the 2013-14 Latino Teaching-Artist Fellowship.
The applicant will act as Resident Teaching Artist in one of our partner school sites, Mission Education Center, a K-5 school for newly arrived immigrant students who speak only Spanish. Part of the commitment involves adapting an existing curriculum & project called My Two Homes, in which students participate in discussions and art-making around their transition to a new home in the U.S. In exchange for service within the organization with a focus on teaching youth, the artist will receive:
- Free studio space for 12 months in our Studios Program located at 3175 17th Street, SF
- Teaching Stipend for curriculum development, teaching, & evaluation.
- Artist Stipend for art materials/ production costs
