Kevin O'Brien (b. 1952, Boston, MA)
I am a proponent of Pan-Global, Industrial, Supra-Expressionism which utilizing materials from global industrial culture. I use bright colors used in textures on dull industrial materials. "Pan-Global" because all cultures have been absorbed into the Industrialscape. "Supra" because an attempt is made to make the expressionistic content real, very real, by accentuating it's physical characteristics. The result is gleaming, energetic snippets of life forms.
The energy is sympathetic to rock and roll (e.g., jimi hendrix), r & b and/or jazz music (e.g., Coltrane). A new primitive kind of "carpentry" skills are used to hold the various materials together, in mixed media and installations (some of the installations date back to the '70's).
I do not feel that use of the materials of painting has been exhausted, or that art now must explore new materials/media to be valid. Finally, the political and socio-political world are foreign to my art.
Kevin O'Brien is offering a wide variety of originals and fine art prints for sale in the ArtSlant Salesroom (here)
