Speculative Scores is the title of a set of visual images (drawn & digital images) made by
Lawrence Upton between late 2009 and Spring 2010.
The images were a basis of the Guy Begbie / Lawrence Upton bookwork of that title in
Autumn 2010; and were the score for the 4-channel 18 minute text-sound composition of
the same title by John Drever and Lawrence Upton, presented at Black Box Theatre,
Buffalo, USA on 21 May 2011, a headline performance of e-poetry 2011.
Goldsmiths takes Upton's title as an appropriate description of his entire production. The image
below is from Forest (2012), made during a long work break on Scilly, a treated photograph for sonic reading.
Lawrence Upton is Visiting Fellow, Goldsmiths College 2012 – 2015 (AHRC Creative Research
Fellow 2008 – 2011) He is a sound and graphic artist; performer; curator; poet.
