DESCRIPTION

At first, Saraniti’s exuberant paintings conjure up the ideas of Abstract Expressionist energy as she draws from an array of those established vocabularies of painting processes: pours, drips and dashing brushstrokes. However, Saraniti’s drips and splashes are not the chaotic results of a spontaneous hand; each "pour" and "drip" is a carefully calculated shape, the interiors of which have been repainted with bands of vibrant color or complex grids. In some cases, the same drip shape is repeated, further complicating their origin and adding humor to these lively and vigorous paintings. Saraniti’s work questions how different painterly gestures convey emotional energy and how a different meaning can evolve through opposing those forces and contradicting those elements.
