Luis Gonzalez Palma: A Retrospective
Schneider Gallery is pleased to present, “Luis González Palma: A Retrospective”, that focuses on some the artist’s most important works since the early 1990s.
González Palma was born in Guatemala in 1957 and currently resides in Argentina. Originally trained as an architect, he also studied cinematography. His interest in photography sparked when he began taking pictures of his wife at the National Ballet, which led him to further study photography at the University of San Carlos in Guatemala. His photographs are noted as being poetic, melodramatic, psychological and metaphorical. He incorporates painterly techniques such as toning, varnishing, hand-painting and distressing the surface of the photographs. Often he prints and paints the images on watercolor paper. Each of the techniques used to create his work are of his invention.
González Palma has won numerous awards, he has participated in two Biennales in Venice, Italy, and his work is included in some of the most prestigious museum and private collections worldwide. He is acknowledged as the Premier Latin American photographer.
We are very proud to have represented González Palma for the past twenty years. He continues to create new work regularly; however, for this show we have secured special vintage material that has been reworked with new techniques.
