DESCRIPTION

Matthew Woodward’s new body of work is a reaction to the Chicago Cultural Center’s 2010 exhibition Louis Sullivan’s Idea, inspired by the mass-production of Sullivan-esque designs that followed the Chicago architect’s successful innovations, and by the larger industry of pre-fabricated architectural adornment that surrounds them.

Using repurposed construction and industrial materials to render drawings of architectural embellishments, Matthew Woodward demonstrates how the architecture of that era has been re-appropriated and re-contextualized in the ever-changing landscapes of the American city and identity.
