DESCRIPTION

In an ongoing body of work stemming from her 2010 residency at threewalls in Chicago and 2011 residency at the University of Chicago, experimental filmmaker Cauleen Smith examines how music can be used to transform urban settings. For MCA Screen, Smith debuts a dual-screen projection inspired by Sun Ra and her research in Chicago. Smith also presents a constellation of video portraits of the last living members of Sun Ra’s Arkestra and members of the Association of the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) in Chicago. This exhibition is organized by Julie Rodrigues Widholm, MCA Pamela Alper Associate Curator.
