Blaque Lyte presents the new and glowing artwork by over thirty international emerging and established artists. Curated by Chicago-based artists Paul Nudd and Chris Kerr, the exhibition explores the visual properties and strange effects of the black light by presenting artwork specifically intended to be seen under ultra violet light. Exhibiting artists include: Mike Andrews, Nick Black, Andy Burkholder, Lilli Carré, Mariano Chavez, Anya Davidson, Edie Fake, Evah Fan, Sanya Glisec, Leif Goldberg, Keith Herzik, Brandon Heuser, Laurent Impeduglia, Eric Lebofsky, Thomas Mazzarella, Max Morris, Benton Moss, Nicole Northway, Joakim Ojanen & Hanna Andersson, Onsmith, Paintallica, Kristen Romaniszak, Marie Rosen, DeeDee Scacci, Seth Scriver, David Shrigley, Ben Stone, Geoffrey Todd Smith, Chris Uphues, Giselind von Wurmb.

From college dorm rooms to TV crime laboratories, black lights have been used to make things glow in the dark since their invention nearly 75 years ago. In an attempt to revive the seemingly dead and trivial medium of the black light, Kerr and Nudd invited artists from all over the world to make new work that reacts to the ultraviolet light. The exhibition features paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, murals, reliefs, and kinetic sculptures created by the artists specifically to immerse viewers in the profound inverse world generated by black lights.

A companion exhibition in Gallery 2 will highlight the particularly psychedelic work of local screen printer Keith Herzik. Titled There Are Still Lofty Dreams, Meager Desires, and Still Silliness, this exhibition will also be on view from October 2 until January 9, 2012.

Blaque Lyte marks the first exhibition Paul Nudd and Chris Kerr have curated together. Both Nudd and Kerr are Chicago area-based artists and teachers who exhibit their work locally, nationally and internationally. Since 2007, the artists have worked jointly on projects, including a series of silkscreen prints and the creation of a catalogue for the exhibition KlusterCrusts at the Butcher Shop gallery in Chicago. The pair plan to curate more exhibitions in the near future as their bromance continues.
